Friday 13th September:

  • 5-10pm join us in our taproom to enjoy our special tasting sets of sake

Saturday 14th September:

  • 12pm or 5pm - book onto our brewery tour with tasting (£25 per person - email lucy@kanpailondon.co.uk to secure your spot)

  • 3pm - miso making workshop with Haruko (London-based fermenter & Nakaji’s Koji Academy certified koji specialist). You’ll learn the history and process of miso fermentation, taste many different kinds of miso, learn some miso recipes and make 500g of rice miso each to take home in a 1L kilner jar (£25 per person - email lucy@kanpailondon.co.uk to secure your spot) - SOLD OUT!

Sunday 15th September:

  • 2-4pm - tea masterclass with the Rare Tea Company - free drop-in session to to sample cold infused matcha and learn how to whisk up the perfect hot matcha, as well as how to brew other Japanese teas. All available to buy to takeaway.

Shinnenkai (新年会) - New Year Celebration!

In Japan, shinnenkai is a way of getting together to celebrate a new year, and to make promises to each other to do your best in the year ahead while wishing each other good luck and fortune.

Sake, with its long history as Japan’s national drink, is basically a must at shinnenkai. It has cultural significance as a drink for celebratory occasions, and one to ward off bad fortune and bring good tidings for the year to come.

So gather your pals and get the year started the right way! We'll have super fresh sake for sipping and we'll have mochi (sweet rice dumplings) to nibble on (a new year tradition). We'll also have origami that you can create and write your new years goals on!

Gaijin x Kanpai Supper Club & Sake Pairing

GAIJIN is an intimate fifteen-seat “Anglo-Japanese” chef's table restaurant run by Paul Frost and Jona Higgins. Drawing on British seasonal ingredients and inspired by their experiences travelling, working and living in Japan, the menu pays homage to Japanese soul food (洋食 yōshoku) as much as to fine dining.  The atmosphere is relaxed and informal – taking cue from Tokyo izakayas. 

We fell in love with this supper club when we visited a few months ago, and now we're over the moon to be teaming up for one special night of sake-pairing to their 12 immaculately prepared courses. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients is truly second to none and we can't wait to compliment it with extra umami kicks from our sakes, including experimental batches not yet on sale! 

Now English autumn is in full swing, GAIJIN have developed a new seasonal menu that showcases some of the best produce around. Expect to see British ceps, smoked eel, horse mackerel, Wangus beef (a special Wagyu/Angus crossbreed!), winter truffles and last but not least, fresh British grown wasabi. Plus icecream make from our Kanpai sake lees!

Booking
The meal is an 12-course "omakase" tasting menu priced at £70 + service (this includes five paired drinks). A £25 deposit is required for your booking (paid via PayPal or bank transfer), with the remainder paid by cash on the night.

South London sake tasting with Izakaya food pairing

The Japan Society are delighted to announce a truly special evening in which the founders of the UK’s first sake brewery share their story and their local sakes paired with very special Japanese comfort food, organised in partnership with Kanpai London Craft Sake and Okan Ramen.

You’ll be greeted with a welcome drink and a starter to enjoy while Kanpai founders Lucy and Tom Wilson explain what inspired them to open a sake brewery in south London. Following the introduction, you will be served a tapas-style sake-paired meal. This includes very premium small batch sakes not available anywhere else!
