HANAMI WAGASHI SAKE PAIRING - NATIONAL SAKE WEEK

  • KANPAI Sake Brewery & Taproom 48 Druid Street London, England, SE1 2EZ United Kingdom (map)

Celebrate the last day of National Sake Week in style with a very special hanami (cherry blossom viewing) themed sake pairing event!

Join sake educator and Japanese culture expert Sarah Stewart @sakestudies at the KANPAI Taproom, where we will be pairing sake with a variety of spring seasonal wagashi: Japan’s famous traditional confectionary that traditionally accompanied matcha green tea. Made primarily from plant-based ingredients including azuki beans and rice, these sweets are individually handcrafted by skilled artisans into edible works of art and are meant to be enjoyed with all five senses. Designs are heavily influenced by Japan’s 24 microseasons, and since National Sake Week was timed to coincide with peak cherry blossom viewing, we will be bringing all the sakura to you at this tasting!

In this workshop Sarah will introduce you to the fascinating world of wagashi and explain how the varied flavours and textures of these charmingly seasonal sweets can pair beautifully with a wide variety of sake, creating flavour combinations not possible with traditional western style desserts. Wagashi and sake pairing is growing in popularity within Japan, so come and enjoy this rare chance to enjoy the two together here in London!

You will taste four different wagashi paired with five different sake, four selected from Japanese sake breweries alongside one of KANPAI’s very own British sake.

The event will take place on the mezzanine overlooking KANPAI’s brand new sake brewery in London Bridge.
